General Rights and Freedoms Committee Holds Its Eleventh Regular Meeting

The General Rights and Freedoms Committee of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held its eleventh regular meeting, chaired by Mohammed Juma Fuzaia. The Committee began by reviewing the recommendations and decisions issued during its previous meetings, following up on the measures taken in this regard, and assessing the level of achievement and progress made in their implementation.
The Committee discussed a number of matters related to strengthening institutional cooperation and partnerships in the areas of training, capacity building, and exchange of expertise. It also followed up on a number of joint initiatives and programmes with relevant national entities, with a view to developing performance and strengthening institutional capacities in the field of human rights.
The Committee also reviewed a number of views and contributions submitted by NIHR as part of its engagement with international human rights mechanisms and bodies, as well as its participation in human rights issues and matters addressed at the regional and international levels, reflecting NIHR’s role in contributing to efforts aimed at protecting and promoting human rights.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Committee stressed the importance of continuing to follow up on matters falling within its mandate and strengthening cooperation and coordination with various relevant entities, in support of NIHR’s efforts to uphold human rights principles and promote general rights and freedoms.
